Thomas Hopkins, M.D., moved to Sacramento in 1995 after practicing in the Denver, Colorado area, when he earned his bachelor's degree in biological science at the University of Denver and attended medical school at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. To support his medical studies, Dr. Hopkins operated a successful sports company throughout his training.

As a board-certified specialist in internal medicine and a member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, Dr. Hopkins takes a special interest in the areas of weight management. Because obesity causes or worsens many common medical problems such as hypertension, diabetes and heart disease, Dr. Hopkins works with patients to treat obesity as a chronic condition. He has a strong interest in finding safe, common-sense ways to reduce weight problems so that his patients can enjoy a better quality of life.

After graduating from the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Waldrep trained in general surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. At Cedars-Sinai, he trained under some of the West Coast pioneers in laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Waldrep was appointed clinical assistant professor of surgery at the University of Southern California School of Medicine, Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery.

Dr. Waldrep's private practice is limited to advanced laparoscopic procedures. For more than three years, he also was on the Trauma Surgery staff at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he managed the facilities Surgical Intensive Care Unit.

He has completed the American Society for Bariatric Surgery Masters course as well as the advanced laparoscopic bariatric surgery courses at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and Stanford University. Dr. Waldrep was one of the first two surgeons to successfully complete the surgical preceptorship sponsored by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Waldrep is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of many surgical societies including the American Society for Bariatric Surgery, the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, the Society for Minimally Invasive Therapy, the American Medical Association and the American Society of General Surgeons, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Waldrep has authored many articles on advanced laparoscopic surgery, as well as traditional general surgery in Annals of Surgery, American Journal of Surgery, Surgical Endoscopy, Journal of the American College of Surgeons and American Surgeon, and several textbook chapters.

Jeffrey Jenkins, M.D. has been board certified in general surgery since 1996. He earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas in 1990. In 1995, he completed his residency in general surgery at David Grant Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base. Dr. Jenkins served as a U.S. Air Force general surgeon from 1990 - 2000. He has also practiced as a trauma surgeon at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.

Dr. Jenkins' professional interests include advanced laparoscopic surgical techniques, including bariatric surgery, anti-reflux surgery and hernia repair, upper endoscopy and colonoscopy.

Dr. Jenkins is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of many associations, including the American Society for Bariatric Surgery (ASBS), the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Dr. Jenkins is currently the Vice Chief of Staff at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital and from years 2002 - 2004 served as the Chief of Surgery at Sutter Auburn Faith. He also plays an active part in Sutter Auburn Faith’s Foundation where he is a member of the board of directors.

Steven Patching, M.D. has been in private practice in Sacramento since 1985. He attended the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine. After graduating, he remained in Sacramento for his surgical residency at the UC Davis Medical Center, with a year of research in surgical nutrition and the treatment of shock. He has lectured both nationally and internationally, and has published numerous articles on minimally invasive surgery. He also has served as course director at the Sutter Institute of Medical Research as an instructor of minimally invasive surgery.

Dr. Patching received his training in bariatric surgery at the UC Davis Medical Center. He has successfully participated in the preceptorship sponsored by the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Patching is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is certified by the American Board of Surgery. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the UC Davis Surgical Society.
