Early and proper diagnosis and treatment of hearing difficulties can make a tremendous difference in a child's development and emotional well being. The Pediatric Audiology Program at Children's Center at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, is part of the Pediatric Rehabilitation Services and provides comprehensive diagnostic hearing evaluations for infants and children from birth through 15 years of age. These evaluations determine hearing loss and eardrum and middle ear pathology.

Tests provided include behavioral, auditory brainstem response (ABR), immittance audiometry and otoacoustic emissions (OAE). Additional services provided include hearing aid evaluations and fittings and custom swim plugs.

Evaluations and treatment plans are shared with referring physicians. Hearing aids and other hearing-enhancing equipment is available through the clinic, and community referrals are available for additional resources.

The Pediatric Rehabilitation Services at Children's Center is approved by the California Children Services (CCS).

The Pediatric Audiology Program is staffed by licensed and certified audiologists. All audiologists have a masters degree (M.S. or M.A.) in Audiology, hold the certificate of clinical competence (CCC) by the American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA) and are licensed by the state of California to practice audiology and to fit and dispense hearing aids.
