Cystic Fibrosis Center
Sutter Children's Center
More than 30,000 children and adults in the U.S. suffer from cystic fibrosis, a genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. The Cystic Fibrosis Center at Children's Center provides diagnosis and treatment based on the latest research and medical advances.
The Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Center is designed with children and their families in mind. The center provides ongoing care from initial diagnosis to adulthood, helping patients maintain their emotional well-being and achieve their highest level of physical growth and activity. An interdisciplinary team under the medical direction of pediatric pulmonologists offers a fully integrated program of care from diagnosis to adulthood. The team includes a pediatric nurse practitioner, a pediatric clinical specialist, pediatric nutritionists, clinical social workers, a clinical data and research assistant and respiratory care practitioners. In addition, pediatric gastoenterologists, geneticists, pediatric audiologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech/language pathologists and feeding specialists are available as needed to provide a complete spectrum of services. The center also participates in the CF Foundation Registry, a national research study that monitors pulmonary function, pulmonary exacerbations and the efficacy of long-term treatment with various medications and airway clearance methods. For more information on cystic fibrosis, please see the Website of the national Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
