Ron Cotterel, M.D., M.S.
Sutter Center for Integrative Health
Ron Cotterel has had an active interest in holistic and integrative medicine since his years in medical school. It is his belief that as humans we have a tremendous natural capacity for healing, each in our own individual ways, and that that capacity can be fully realized by forming trusting and compassionate healing partnerships with healers of many types.
As director of the Sutter Center for Integrative Health, Cotterel conducts holistic health evaluations, provides mind/body/spirit-needs assessments, and integrates the work of the complementary practitioners. He is available to coordinate conventional medicine follow up and testing with the client's primary care provider. He also offers consultations in herbal treatment, nutrition and lifestyle modification, including weight management, smoking cessation, exercise-program planning and stress reduction.
Cotterel earned his medical degree at the University of Illinois, and completed his family practice residency training at the University of Michigan. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice and an assistant professor of family practice at the School of Medicine at the University of California, Davis. He has practiced family medicine in Davis since 1991, and joined Sutter West Medical Group in 1995. He has a master's degree in nutritional sciences from Washington State University, has had herbal medicine training with David Hoffman and is a member of the American Herbalists Guild.
