For Patients & Families
Sutter Stroke Center
Providing stroke patients with the best care possible is our first and foremost goal. We also recognize that a stroke affects all family members and we work hard to ensure loved ones receive updates on the patient's status and answers to the many questions that arise. In addition to doctors and nurses providing care to the patient, patients and family members receive visits from nurse case managers, social workers and support staff, including spiritual care providers, to assist in the transition through hospital care and back home or to a skilled nursing or custodial care facility. Our continuum of care helps support patients and families through the decision-making process and as they adjust to ongoing care of their conditions.
One of the most important steps families, friends, and patients who are able can take is learning about the type of stroke the patient experienced, possibilities of what to expect and what measures can help protect against another stroke.
The following pages outline basic information on strokes and provide links to more extensive information available on the Internet.
