Family Medicine Residency Program
Overview
The Sutter Medical Center Hospitalist Fellowship is a one-year program, which provides a rich educational experience for graduates of either Family Medicine or Internal Medicine residency programs. The primary goal is to provide fellows with advanced skills and confidence by which they may provide outstanding and comprehensive inpatient care and become superior clinician-educators. The fellowship will provide fellows with recognizable skills and enhance their value as they enter competitive hospitalist job markets.
The Sutter Medical Center is a recognized tertiary community hospital within a sophisticated integrated health care system. This 823 bed hospital boasts centers of excellence in neuroscience, orthopedic joint replacement, cardiac care, transplant services, oncology, a children’s center with large volume, and multiple specialties. The EICU (electronic ICU is a model for safety and harm reduction in intensive care units and is one of a handful that exists in the United States. Hospitalists participate in teaching Family Medicine residents.
Curriculum
Core rotations include adult medicine, pediatrics and ICU medicine as well as palliative care, hospital procedures and research. There is significant opportunity to tailor the curriculum to personal career objectives.
Clinical Teaching
The fellow will participate as an attending on the FM teaching service and be an active participant in educational conferences including morning report and morbidity and mortality.
Eligibility
Fellowship applicants should have completed a Family Medicine or Internal Medicine residency program and be board-eligible with certification pending. Applicants should have a demonstrated interest in teaching and clinical care. They should have a DEA license and an unrestricted California Medical License by the time of the start of the program. Failure to obtain hospital privileges will be cause for ineligibility.

Selected candidates will be contacted for an interview. Fellowships begin in July. The salary for the 2009-10 academic year is $80,000 plus benefits including options for medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, disability and liability coverage, vacation and conference allowance as well as meals, parking and sick leave coverage.
