Autism
Know the Signs
Sutter Children's Services
Here are some tips from Michael G. Chez, M.D., Director of Pediatric Neurology at Sutter Neuroscience Institute.
Symptoms:
- Does your child respond to you calling their name?
- Does the child point or gesture?
- Does the child show you things to try to get you to pay attention to them?
- Is your child over 12 months and not speaking?
- Does your child avoid eye contact?
- Does your child walk on their toes, flap their hands or spin?
See a doctor when:
- If your child is over 12 months of age and has no eye contact or language.
- If your child covers their ears, acts deaf, or seems to not respond to calling their name.
- If your child has loss of previously acquired language or developmental skills.
If you suspect your child has autism, call (916) 454-6667 or ask your physician for a referral to Sutter Neuroscience Medical Group Child Neurology.
