Exciting changes in Maternal-Fetal Care at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento
Beginning July 1, 2006 a new group of perinatologists, Perinatal Associates of Sacramento, began providing medical expertise for high-risk maternity services at Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento.
The group, led by William M. Gilbert, M.D., perinatologist and Medical Director of Women's Services for Sutter Health Sacramento Sierra Region, provides comprehensive perinatology services including 24/7 availability for phone consultation and acceptance of maternal transports, an outpatient office for the referral of high-risk pregnancy consults and targeted ultrasounds, and/or transfer of care of high-risk patients.
"As the state's first maternity hospital we've got a rich tradition in providing our patients with innovative care," says Dr. William M. Gilbert. "That is why we are thrilled to build this group based on what we know our patients want and need."
For more than 20 years Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento has had a team of experts caring for the region's most at-risk moms and babies. In addition to the new maternal-fetal group and the specially trained nursing staff for the hospital's dedicated 22-bed High Risk Maternity Care Unit, board-certified obstetric anesthesiologists, and neonatologists are available on-site 24 hours a day. The hospital's 55-bed tertiary Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is one of the largest in northern California and maintains a 24-hour transport service.
